Get Your “You” Mojo Back

Hey mums, it’s me again and I’m finally having a bit of relaxation in Italy before baby no.2 arrives. But you know what? Feeling relaxed got me thinking - do you have “you” mojo back after having kids? Is it lost in a sea of dirty nappies, milk and spilt lunches? Don’t get me wrong, seeing my daughter growing up and having a great time makes my heart fill with joy but one of the reasons why I started “Careers After Kids” is that I felt I was losing myself. And my daughter was seeing that.  It got to a point whereby I was so exhausted and depressed that I didn’t even have the energy to play with my her.

So, after a lot of self-searching and crying, I knew this needed to change NOW to get myself back on track. I started by allocating 5 minutes a day to meditating and then before bed, reading a book. Then as time went on, Sofia started nursery part-time, so I was able to enjoy a nice coffee out at Starbucks and go to the gym again. Having those few snippets of time made me feel more worthwhile again.

Did I get the mummy guilt, oh boy yes! I still get that feeling that if I don’t play with my daughter all the time, I’m a bad mum. But, I stuck to my guns and a set time of day to me-even if for 5 minutes – made me a much happier mum.

Why am I saying this to you? Well here’s the thing girls. If you don’t allow yourself to have a little “me time”, you can get caught up in life’s worries to a point you just don’t exist anymore. You are amazing and if you feel guilty about having those precious 5 minutes to you -chuck the guilt in the bin now! If you’re thinking ‘well Louisa, that’s great what you’re saying but I never have the time,’-well make the time honey because you’re important.

There are lots of opportunities to get your “you” mojo back. Nap times are great moments to do something for yourself or when your little one is busy playing. One of my favourite times is when I put my daughter to bed and I have an hour to myself before my hubby gets home. I get a chance to catch up on work and just chill. Find that moment that works for you and I guarantee you will start feeling like you again.

So honey, it’s time to throw away the mummy guilt and feel like you again because like Loreal says, “your worth it!”
